It was a happy and joyous occasion, one that would only come once for me. I watch as the groom puts the ring on the correct finger, emotion welling up in me as I watch the wedding party also get emotional. My best friend turns to me, her bottom lip in between her teeth as she takes the ring I hand her, turning to put it on her husband-to-be. The officiator of the wedding said the famous words, "you may kiss the bride." prompting the two to lean forward, my best friend wrapping her arms around her new husband's neck as he grabs her waist with a hold that could keep her close, but not hurt her. The cheers irrupt from the on-lookers as the two walk down the aisle. I follow behind the new couple, my happiness overfilling for my friend that she found the one she would spend her life with. My friend's simple wedding dress hugged her body in a flattering way as the floral design complimented the flower veil that rested on her head.
It was only a few moments before we walk into a large open area full of food and tables with an open space for a dance area for the guests and wedding party. The bride and groom sit at their table, their attention fully on each other as they awaited the moment they could spend their first night alone as a new couple. She laid her head on Donghun, her husband's, shoulder as she intertwined their fingers to admire the the rings that adorned their fingers.
I smile at the two, my heart happy for them as I watch the guests enter the room, taking seats at tables as they wait for the food and cake to be served. The night went on as Donghun and my friend stayed next to each other, only leaving their seats for their first dance then returning to share small, hidden kisses on each other's hands and fingers. I sat with them, only standing to get my friend and I a piece of cake before sitting and observing the guests that danced.
I felt my chest tighten as the room felt stuffy, running around to make sure the wedding went well had me exhausted which left me a bit anxious at the large crowd of people. I stand, resting my hand on my best friend's shoulder as I whisper that I was going for a walk. She grabs my hand with worry in her eyes, asking if I was okay without speaking a word.
"I just need some fresh air. Don't worry, I'm fine." I tell her as I hug her, my hug reassuring her I was fine and only needed a few moments of silence.
I bunch a section of my purple bridesmaid dress, lifting it off the floor so I wouldn't trip over the fabric. The dress flowed out enough to hide the slit that run up to my mid thigh, unless you took a closer look, however when I bunched the dress the slit became more noticeable which made me worry as some eyes travel to me, making me uncomfortable.
I escape the room, traveling down the beautiful hallways of the hotel the wedding venue was being held in. My fingers trace the moldings of the designs, a small smile gracing my lips as I find a vacant room. I enter the room, seeing a grand piano in the middle of the room being illuminated but the giant windows that let the moonlight shine over the room.
I was surprised to see the room not as vacant as I originally thought, seeing a familiar man in a black suit as he played the piano creating a soft melody that encases the entire room and entrances anyone who enters. Seyoon was one of the groomsmen and had never made it to the reception. He stayed behind to put up the chairs from the ceremony but must have escaped to this room for some quiet. Seyoon and I had been friends for awhile, I was friends with all the groomsmen as we all hung out together before our two friends got married. We were comfortable with each other so I step inside the room, closing the door behind me as I rest against it to bask in the melody a bit longer. The sound come to an abrupt stop, an emptiness replacing the beautiful sound that I began to miss faster than I thought I would.
"You play beautifully." I speak up, my tone soft so as not to disturb the peaceful atmosphere the room held.
Seyoon smiles as I begin to approach him, stepping into the moonlight to where he could see me. "Thank you."
